don't follow your heart, because you might be sorry you did.

we have all heard the phrase "just follow your heart" many times. i have never questioned this cliche until recently. i mean...it's just something that sounds like the right thing to do. if your heart is such a vital part of you, then the things that come from it must be the core of what you really need to do, right? WRONG!! your heart can lead you into very dangerous, life altering, terrifying territory. God gave us a heart to love and to be loved... but he also gave us logic and His holy word to abide by.

a friend gave me the verse jeremiah 17:9 that totally rocked my world. of course, i've read and heard it before, but it never meant a whole lot to me. "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" i have done many things in my life with the reasoning "i'm just following my heart." and, i don't think i'm the only one that is guilty of that. i am, however, extremely glad to know that my heart can be my worst enemy. knowing this, puts a whole different outlook on many areas of my life. i'm done following MY heart. i need to follow my God and HIS heart. i wish i would've realized this about 8 months ago.
