maiden voyage.

yesterday we had ben's 4th birthday shindig. i have enclosed a clip of him blowing out his candles in an oh so interesting fashion that you really just gotta see. the kid's got a mind of his own. (p.s. no, you are not hallucinating, you do see a cookie cake. i make fabulous cakes for others... but when i'm 9 months pregnant, my family gets cookie cake. and i'm totally okay with that. i'm also okay with letting my almost 4 year old put the candles wherever he wanted...)

and there she sits. the highlight of ben's day yesterday and the project craig has been working on for weeks getting it all ready for our big 4 year old: ben's first big boy bike.


it does have training wheels, but after about 3 miles of riding in loops at the middle school track...it appears that those will be off shortly. and let me just say... this isn't just an ordinary kid bike. this is a trek and apparently that means something. to me, it doesn't mean a whole lot. but for those of you that care...now you know, and if you don't know, yes, you should be impressed.

i have a great video of ben seeing his bike for the first time and him taking his "maiden voyage" (as craig called it). but the video just won't load...so all i've got is a picture. but you get the idea.

after the maiden voyage was over, ben hung out with dooley. there are few things cuter than a boy and his dog. exhibit A: and exhibit B:

so, the party was a success, ghetto cookie cake and all. but what i learned was this: ben could care less about the bells and whistles. he just likes to have fun. i think that's not only a ben thing, but a boy thing. guess my life just got a lot easier. :)

craig was beyond thrilled to ben's response to the bike. he wants him to love biking as much as he does. ya know, a father and son bonding thing, i suppose. they already have so many things in common as it is and definitely in the future, but i know the list has really only started.
