we have had a string of bad luck here in our house during the month of may. i mean, really. it's been bad. to the point where we sit around and laugh every time something happens because if we don't...we would cry.
#1. earlier this month the air stopped working on my montero. i know, sweet, right? especially when you tote two kids around. and it was one of the weeks where it was like 80 and the pollen was insane, of course. so, a few days and a whole paycheck later, we had the privilege of paying for that beauty. THEN, we got home from it being "fixed" and "replaced" and realized it was still broken. ahhhh, yes. fantastic. granted, the mechanic didn't make us pay for it AGAIN, but we were still out a car for a few more days and when you have a family of four all going in different directions at very early times in the morning, it gets rough.
#2. then, this past friday i looked down at the ring that craig got me for christmas...(side note: it was a ring that he gave me when ben was born and a year ago one of the diamonds fell out and i never got it fixed...so for this past christmas my thoughtful husband got it fixed and instead of replacing the diamond he put the birthstones of our family. and then he hung it behind our 1st christmas ornament for me to find christmas morning- PRECIOUS!) anyway, i looked down and ben's birthstone had fallen out! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
#3 and #4. saturday morning craig got up early and drove to atlanta to pick up a bike he bought on craig's list. he got the bike and drove about 40 minutes from home and his car stopped. just stopped working. on i75. awwwwwesome. we have AAA, but it was still going to be a lot of moolah to tow it all the way back home. so, luckily, his dad got a truck and trailer and picked him and his nonworking camry up. as they are tightening the straps on the trailer (or something like that) the car started to roll OFF the trailer. craig's dad runs back there and yanks the door open to put the brake on. forgetting his manly strength, he rips the handle off craig's door.
#5. about the time that craig calls me to tell me this... i was at my mom's and i had picked up a rubbermaid box and threw my back out. so, i was down for a couple hours not moving. which is SO GREAT when you have a 6 month old. grandma gayla, of course, kept him fed and busy while i rested a bit.
#6 and #7. sunday morning we skipped church (i know, i know. maybe we REALLY needed to go...) and spent time outside by the pool and just had fun. well, we had fun until craig realized that something was clogged in one of the lines and it was not filtering the pool correctly. honestly, this is the least of our worries. but still, something to "fix." oh, and ben got pretty sun burned this day...even though i put sunscreen on him 4 different times. i don't think he's ever been burned. it made me feel like a bad mom. :(
#8. sunday evening craig's mom came over and watched the boys while craig and i went to eat and go to c and j's house to watch the finale of LOST. we went to las magaritas (the one behind hardee's on 25th st...i'm telling you this for a reason...) and it was pretty good and then going to c and j's house was great. well, it was a sunday night and lost wasn't over until 11:30, so i knew it would be rough getting up in the morning because we didn't get in bed until like 12:30. "at least i'll get like 5 hours of sleep," i thought, trying to the positive. fast forward 2.5 hours. yep. that's when i heard the dreaded sound. someone throwing up. it was craig. and it was the tacos...again. d r e a d f u l. he was so incredibly sick. i kept wondering if his toenails were still in place because he was barfing so fiercely.
craig had taken monday off because we just happen to not have anyone to keep graham that day. well, there was no possible way he could keep graham in his condition. and quite honestly, craig really didn't need to be left alone. he has a tendency to get dehydrated real quick. i'll spare you the rest of the vomiting details... but i had to stay home monday to keep craig and graham. (it was great to hang with graham, but i hated that craig being so sick was the reason. AND, please do yourself a favor and skip the las magaritas behind hardees. we are 99% sure the meat was bad. real real bad.)
#9. oh yes. there's more. after a day of being so extremely sick, craig notices that our fridge isn't real cool. we thought maybe ben had left the door cracked a tad or something, so we didn't think much about it. at about 9:30pm we opened the freezer and fridge to find a lot of thawed popsicles and room temperature milk and butter.
so. craig's car is in the shop and we will basically owe the mechanic another paycheck. and we have to get a new fridge. they don't sell those at the dollar store, ya know.
needless to say, that awesome bike that craig got in atlanta...yeah, it'll be for sale real soon.
i know it sounds like i'm complaining...and i kinda am... but at this point, it really is just a good laugh. the best thing is, i have a gorgeous, loving, and hilarious family. and if craig and i have learned anything the 6 years we've been married, it's that going through the rough patches is what makes us stronger. we must be made of steel by now, right? :)

OH MY GOODNESS lindsay! That is ridiculous!! Just keep chanting...ONE MORE DAY...ONE MORE DAY...ONE MORE DAY!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Linds! That sucks! Just think though....it can only go up from here, right? I will pray for you guys. I love you and miss you! Give those boys a kiss from me. :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhh man! Sorry to hear about all of these crazy mishaps. Keep your attitude up, though (as it sounds like it is), and you WILL pull through it all.....
ReplyDeleteahhh, i'm soooo sorry! that totally sucks. we can complain about our money woes together. grrrr.... when it rains it pours. lets get together ASAP. i do vote you get a new car. =)
ReplyDeleteman! I'm glad you were able to write all the horrors in such a funny tone. :) I know Ooltewah may feel like AL to some ppl, but it's really just around the corner so let me know if you ever need anything!
ReplyDeleteDo you think maybe all this happened because you put the Smoke Monster in cake form? Sweet, delicious, chocolate perfection cake form. Just a theory.
ReplyDeleteWay to keep perspective though. I hope Craig's toenails are ok.
